What Will Happen with Cheese in the Next Two Years?

What will happen with cheese in the next two years? In the next two years, cheese will play a role in new nutritional spaces, including functional food, sports nutrition and even dietary supplements. Moreover, weight-loss drugs are set to make nutritious cheese more relevant for consumers, but consumers’ focus on their weight will threaten cheese consumption.

Cheese brands are shifting the dial towards nutrition

In 2024, to defend their image as a great source of protein, cheese brands started to be more vocal about their products’ protein content.

Although high-protein cheeses represent a small share of total cheese launches (4% in 2024), there is still opportunity in this segment. Brands can profit from a proven demand for high-protein snacks, particularly among younger consumers. High-protein cheese is also relevant for seniors who need more protein.

However, high saturated fat, salt and calorie content in some cheeses could harm brands’ healthy image, with or without protein claims. Using nutrition claims on products with otherwise unhealthy nutrition profiles may be seen as unethical.

According to the report, rising awareness of ultra-processed food and weight-loss drugs will intensify demand for simple nutrition, keeping protein cheese relevant.

So, what will happen with cheese in the next two years? Is it still relevant to your industry?
